Pickleball in St. Joseph, Minnesota

St. Joseph now has dedicated outdoor pickleball courts at Millstream Park. The courts opened after the city completed its 2025 improvement project and give residents a free local option. Players seeking scheduled open play or indoor court time can use Whitney Recreation Center in nearby St. Cloud.

  • Whitney Recreation Center, 1529 Northway Drive, St. Cloud: Six indoor courts offer public play Monday through Friday from 7 AM to noon and Wednesday from 6 to 9 PM. Daily admission is $3.25, and a 20 visit punch pass costs $50. St. Cloud pickleball

Getting Started

St. Joseph recreation includes seasonal pickleball instruction, while individual players can use the Coaches section for a local lesson. Millstream is well suited to a first practice session because the dedicated setup removes the need to create temporary lines or bring a net.

Whitney Recreation Center offers another structured route with beginner classes covering ball control, forehand and backhand shots, serves, lobs, smashes, rules, and game strategy when those sessions are on the schedule.

Open Play and Events

Millstream operates as open public court space rather than a hosted daily rotation. It works best for a foursome, a practice group, or players who have already arranged a game. The first come policy keeps access simple, but players arriving alone should not assume a regular group will be present.

Whitney Recreation Center provides the stronger nearby route for recurring play. Its weekday morning and Wednesday evening hours attract a broader player pool, and the facility also schedules ladder leagues for beginner and intermediate players during parts of the year.

Visiting St. Joseph

Visitors traveling with partners can go directly to Millstream Park, bring paddles and balls, and use the free courts on a first come basis. Parking, portable restrooms, picnic space, and trails make it convenient for a longer park visit.

A solo visitor should use Whitney Recreation Center for a better chance of joining games. The low daily fee and six indoor courts provide a reliable alternative in winter, rain, or times when no group has gathered at Millstream.
